Turtles

From the kitchen of Mary Ringlein

The original Turtle candy was created by DeMet’s Candy Company in 1918 — chocolate and caramel draped over pecan clusters, shaped just enough like a turtle to earn the name. This three-ingredient version is the home cook’s answer to that classic: a mini pretzel twist on the bottom, a single Rolo melts on top in a low oven, and a pecan half gets pressed in while the caramel is still warm. Mary Ringlein’s recipe makes as many as you want — line up pretzels, top with Rolos, four minutes at 250°, press on the pecans. A holiday cookie tray staple.
