A classic Midwestern baked bean casserole from Patty Hykes β three kinds of beans with browned hamburger, brown sugar, vinegar, and mustard in a sweet-tangy sauce. Oven or crock pot.
Ingredients
1 lb hamburger, browned and drained
1 lb can pork and beans
1 lb can kidney beans, drained
1 lb can lima beans, drained
1 onion, chopped
Β½ c ketchup
1 tsp salt
Β½ c brown sugar
2 tsp vinegar
1 tsp mustard
Instructions
Brown the hamburger in a skillet and drain well.
Drain the kidney beans and lima beans (do not drain the pork and beans).
Combine all ingredients in a large baking dish or crock pot and mix well.
Oven: Bake covered at 350Β°F for 45β60 minutes.
Crock pot: Cook on low for 4 hours.
Oven or crock pot: Both methods work great. The crock pot is ideal for potlucks β it stays warm and the flavors keep developing.
Drain everything except the pork and beans β the sauce from the pork and beans adds body to the dish.
