Apple Pizza

From the kitchen of Mary Ringlein

Apple and cheddar cheese is a pairing with deep roots in the American Northeast and New England — regions where a slice of sharp cheddar on apple pie was considered not just acceptable but correct. The pizza format here is a playful reimagining of that classic combination, reflecting the creative home baking that flourished in NE Ohio community cookbooks of the 1980s and 90s.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Roll out crust 1" bigger than 13" pizza pan. Flute the edge.
  2. Arrange apple slices on crust. Sprinkle nuts over apples. Sprinkle cheese over nuts.
  3. Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter, mix well. Sprinkle sugar mixture over pizza.
  4. Bake at 400° for about 20 minutes until apples are tender and crust is slightly brown.
💡 Tip: The cheddar cheese on top sounds unusual but it's a classic touch — don't skip it!
