5 Bean Hot Dish

From the kitchen of Bob April

The 'hot dish' — a term used more in Minnesota and the Dakotas than in Ohio, though the concept is universal — is the Midwestern church potluck in a single pan. Five kinds of beans, ground meat, and a sweet-savory sauce designed to feed a crowd and hold well on a buffet table: this is community cooking in its most honest form. Its name may even reflect Bob April's North Dakota years.
